For a perfect fit, it is essential to know how to measure a t-shirt. There are some basic areas that need to be measured though the styles and the types of the t-shirts may vary.
How to measure the size of your T-Shirt?
Before you take the measurements, you need to remember some important points:
- Lay the t-shirt on a flat surface
- Do not use fabric covered surfaces
- Smooth out all the wrinkles
- The surface should be as smooth and flat as a board
Once all these conditions are met, you can measure the t-shirt with a step-by-step procedure. Here’s a Step-by-Step guide to measure a t-shirt.
1. Measure Body Length
For the measurement of the whole body, the shirt is measured from the collar seam to the hem’s bottom.
2. Measure Chest
It is important that you measure the most filled part of the chest when measuring a t-shirt. Take the measurements across the t-shirt, just an inch below the armhole. It is advisable to measure your t-shirt twice; this will lead to better measurements. Also remember that the shirts get narrow around ½ inches near the bottom.
3. Measuring Shoulders
Lay the t-shirt on a flat surface with the front-side facing downwards. Then, measure from the top of the left shoulder to the top of the right shoulder.
4. Measure Sleeve Length
To determine the sleeve length it should be measured from the shoulder seam to the bottom edge of the sleeve opening. From the top shoulder point, measure tills the end of the sleeve. To get the perfect measurement add the yielded measurement to the one retrieved from your own t-shirt’s sleeve length.
(a) Long Sleeve Length
The long sleeve length can very simply be measured from the shoulder seam to the wrist.
(b) Short Sleeve Length
Just like the long sleeves, the measurement of short sleeves also starts from the shoulder seam and is measured till the edge of the sleeve opening.
5. Measuring Sleeve Opening
The sleeve opening is measured parallel to the open edge as shown in the images below.
